Connect1d Canada: Terms of use

These Terms of Use (Terms) govern your use of the Connect1d Canada web application (Connect1d) operated by the Governors of the University of Alberta (UA). Connect1d is offered to you conditional on your acceptance without modification of the Terms contained herein, and your use of Connect1d constitutes your agreement to all such Terms.

1. Purpose of Connect1d

Connect1d is a web application designed to connect people living with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) or who have a child living with T1D  (Participants) with researchers (Researchers) leading Research Ethics Board-approved studies in Canada (Studies), so they can participate in those Studies. We also aim to talk to Participants to find out what Researchers should be studying. By joining Connect1d, Participants can register their interest to take part in T1D Studies. It is also intended as a resource for people living with Type 1 Diabetes to learn about the research being conducted in Canada, along with the latest research findings.

Connect1d is not a medical device or medical service, and may not be used as such.

2. Privacy and Personal Information

When you visit the Connect1d website, the web server automatically collects a limited amount of information essential for the operation and security of Connect1d, which may include your personal information (PI). Additionally, we may request additional PI from you to provide the Connect1d services. The type of PI collected, used, disclosed and managed through Connet1d is outlined in our Connect1d Privacy Policy. By using Connect1d, you are consenting to allow such PI to be collected, used, disclosed and managed as indicated in that Connect1d Privacy Policy.

Connect1d receives and transmits information, which may include your PI, over the internet. Such transmissions may be at risk of inadvertent loss or theft, and the UA cannot guarantee the security of any information transmitted to or from Connect1d. By using Connect1d, you agree that your access and use of Connect1d, including as concerns your PI, is entirely at your own risk.

You may not use Connect1d in any manner that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair the Connect1d website or interfere with any other party’s use and enjoyment of Connect1d. You may not obtain or attempt to obtain any materials or information through any means not intentionally made available or provided through Connect1d.

You further agree that you will provide accurate information, including but not limited to information needed to create a Connect1d account for you, and to help facilitate matching Participants with Researchers through Connect1d.

You further agree that you will not publish, share or otherwise disclose any information or data accessed or obtained through your use of Connect1d, except as expressly permitted herein, and will not upload or feed any such information or data into any AI software, including but not limited to any large language models or generative AI applications.
