Decision coaching using a patient decision aid for youth and parents considering insulin delivery methods for type 1 diabetes: a pre/post study.

Ontario
1 January 2021
With so many options available, it can be difficult for parents and children to choose an insulin delivery method. This study looked at whether decision coaching could reduce conflict between youth with type 1 diabetes and their parents as they decided on a new insulin delivery method. Each study participant received decision coaching using a patient decision aid. This allowed the youth and their parent(s) to work through the decision together and empowered youth by inviting them to participate. The families in the study reported a significant decrease in conflict related to this decision.
