Individual glucose responses to prolonged moderate intensity aerobic exercise in adolescents with type 1 diabetes: The higher they start, the harder they fall

Ontario
1 February 2019
This research team found that youth with T1D have variable glycemic responses to prolonged aerobic exercise, but this can be partially explained by their blood sugar levels before they start to exercise. When they did not put any strategies in place to limit the blood sugar drop during exercise, hypoglycemia happened at a rate of about 44%. Having a high pre-exercise blood glucose concentration offers little protection against hypoglycemia.
